Each faction in Origor advances its capabilities through a structured sequence of research — a Tech Tree: a dependency graph of upgrades where higher knowledge requires prior construction and earlier research to unlock.
Structure
Research in Origor is not free-floating. Every upgrade belongs to a faction and requires a specific building to have been constructed first. Buildings come in two research tiers:
This creates a branching dependency structure: a faction must invest in buildings before it can invest in the knowledge those buildings enable. A commander who has not built the required structure cannot research its upgrades regardless of Gold or Nevril reserves.
Faction Specificity
No two factions share a Tech Tree. Research paths are shaped entirely by each faction's Nevril type, architecture, and strategic doctrine. VITAE upgrades enhance biological regeneration and growth cycles. PYRO upgrades accelerate forge output and combustion effects. NEKRO upgrades extend the utility of fallen units. Each faction's research path reflects what its Nevril type makes possible — and what it makes necessary.
The Thalvori Exception
The Thalvori (Neutral faction) have no Nevril income and no Nevril-type buildings. Their research is Gold-only and focuses on adaptability, trade efficiency, and generalist military doctrine rather than Nevril enhancement.
Research vs. Construction
Tech Trees describe what can be learned given what has been built. The order of research within a tree — which upgrade to prioritize — is a strategic decision, not a fixed sequence. A faction with the required building can research any of its available upgrades in any order. The tree constrains access; it does not prescribe sequence.
